Ian Prewitt: Create, Share, Collect

Created with Cheshire College Art Students & care homes in Blacon and Chester city centre

In 2021, artist and Cheshire College lecturer Ian Prewitt asked his students to reconnect with Chester and specific elements of the city’s architecture; to reimagine and reconfigure the city’s familiar icons. The students created work that was turned into postcards for delivery to two care homes: Willows in Blacon and Chester Lodge in Chester City centre.

Before the postcards were sent, the students wrote about their hopes for the future on the cards addressed to the care home residents.

Lockdown prevented the students and residents from meeting, but the project will continue to develop to allow for meaningful conversations between them in the future. For 2022, Ian worked with a new cohort of students to produce postcard packs to be distributed at outlets on the Rows. The cards were once again filled with messages of hope – this time from the students to the people of Chester.
